Dog Training Tips for Dog Lovers

Dog Training Tips for Dog Lovers

As a dog lover, you want your furry friend to be happy and well-behaved. Training your dog is an essential part of achieving that goal. In this blog post, we'll share some dog training tips that every dog lover should know.

Start Early

Training should start early, ideally when your dog is a puppy. Puppies have a natural desire to please their owners, which makes them more receptive to training. You can start with basic commands like "sit" and "stay" and gradually progress to more complex tasks.

Puppy

Use Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement is a training technique that involves rewarding your dog for good behavior. This can be as simple as giving your dog a treat or praising them when they follow a command. Positive reinforcement is more effective than punishment because it creates a positive association between the behavior and the reward.

Puppy with Treat

Be Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to training your dog. You should use the same commands and rewards every time, so your dog knows what to expect. If you're inconsistent, your dog may become confused and less responsive to training.

Dog Sitting

Keep Training Sessions Short

Dogs have short attention spans, so it's important to keep training sessions short and focused. Aim for 10-15 minute sessions, and make sure to end on a positive note. If you try to train for too long, your dog may become bored or frustrated.

Dog Training

Practice Every Day

Consistent practice is essential for dog training success. Try to practice every day, even if it's just for a few

Why Planes Can't Fly Over Messi's Luxurious House In Barcelona

Why Planes Can't Fly Over Messi's Luxurious House In Barcelona?

Why Planes Can't Fly Over Messi's Luxurious House In Barcelona

Ah…the perks of being a big-name celebrity, eh? Nice cars, private jets, designer clothes, your own personal No-Fly Zone around your sprawling $7-million mansion… Ok, that might not be the case for all famous people, but it is for Argentinian soccer star Lionel Messi! And the reasons will surprise you… If I could sum it up, it’d be location, location, location! The 32-year-old’s eco-friendly home is in Gavia, a town that’s about 6 miles from Barcelona’s main airport El Prat. And get this: Messi’s estate is preventing the airport from expanding! Add to that the whole “planes are absolutely forbidden from flying over it” thing, and it seems like the soccer superstar is causing a lot of inconveniences!

Now, before you assume it’s all about fame, power, and the influence a big bank account will get ya, the flight restriction has nothing to do with Messi at all! No, it all comes down to Spanish law. The forward for FC Barcelona live in an area that's highly protected by environmental laws. His home happens to be within the perimeter, and one of those guidelines includes noise levels. The airspace is restricted because the sheer volume of aircraft would interfere with the natural wildlife in the area. That’s why El Prat Airport isn’t allowed to add a new runway near Gava. The law also states that planes must immediately fly towards the sea when leaving the airport. That would be south if you’re taking off from El Prat. By law, they cannot fly along the coast. Lucky for Messi and his family, Gava is due west of the airport if you go along the coast. So, it’s more so thanks to luck (and legal stuff) that Messi is well-protected from an airplane getting too close to his property! But why is “No-Fly Zones” important anyway? Now you know that they help preserve environmentally protected areas.

They’re also usually over historical heritage sites with high traffic, regions with known conflict, and sometimes other famous or important people's houses too. Messi’s humble abode isn’t the only No-FlyZone, of course. Here are some others your next flight might bypass! - Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota Home to 1 million acres of pure breathtaking nature, the U.S. Forest Service keeps this area well-protected. This forest is one of the most popular spots in the States for fishing, canoeing, and hiking. It’s also home to glacial lakes, metamorphic rocks, and microfossils. - Windsor Castle, UKLocated in Berkshire, England, this architectural beauty was once a fort built during the 11thcentury by William the Conqueror.

I wonder if his friends called him Bill? Anyway, since then, it’s had a long history and ties with the British Royal Family. It’s right up there with Buckingham Palaces far as having the status of a national treasure. By the way, the airspace above BuckinghamPalace is a No-Fly Zone as well! - Machu Picchu's one of the most famous historical sanctuaries on this planet. As such, Peruvian authorities can’t risk disturbing the World Heritage Site or the wildlife living around it.

Sure, plenty of tourists visit the ruins to learn all about the Inca Empire. But as of 2006, nobody can fly a plane over it! - TibetYou might assume it’d be the same case for this historic and culturally rich place. But for Tibet, the flight restriction is all about passenger safety. The region isn’t just home to the tallest mountain in the world, the mighty Everest, it’s also covered in peaks! What does that have to do with planes? Well, there’s a risk that the pilot won't be able to set the aircraft down somewhere between all those mountains in case of an emergency. - Cuban sort of foreign aircraft approaching Cuba has to get special permission ahead of time. Airlines that are allowed to fly into Cuba include JetBlue, American Airlines, and Delta Fly. The flight from New York to Havana is the most popular. - FinlandThis Scandinavian country holds the title for being home to the happiest people in the world! Perhaps part of the reason is that they do have the sound of jets keeping them up at night?

Ok, the whole country isn’t a No-Fly Zone, but certain areas are for sure. That includes the space over their nuclear power plants. And the area around their oil refinery is completely out of the question also. For as many places that have aircraft restrictions, some surprising ones don’t have an airport at all! - AndorraThis small nation between France and Spain in the Pyrenees Mountains is the largest in the world that doesn’t have an airport. It is, however, home to three heliports.

So, if you’re interested in checking out Andorra, you might need to find a helicopter first! - LiechtensteinWith the two closest airports being 30 to 50 miles across the border in Switzerland and Germany, tourists typically take a bus or train into this microstate wedged between Austria and Switzerland! - MonacoThis small Western European country also has a heliport instead of an airport. If you want to fly in by chopper, you'll be landing at the Monaco Heliport in Fontvieille. I’m starting to see a theme here: European countries are so close together that many of them don’t even need a big bustling air hub! - San MarinoHere’s another microstate, this time found in the north of Italy. Surprise surprise, it has its own heliport.

But it also boasts a small aerodrome with a grass runway! Airdromes are areas where aircraft activity takes place. That means, technically, all airports are aerodromes. However, not all aerodromes are legally designated as airports, so it made my list! - Vatican CityKeeping with its European counterparts, people living in the wealthiest city-state in the world would need to go to Rome for their flight.

Not a major inconvenience – Vatican City is located within Rome, after all! It’d be an impossible feat to try and fit an actual airport anywhere there: the city-state is smaller than Disneyland! And here’s another freebie: the two Disney park locations in the US are also No-Fly Zones! Finally, there’s a place in France where you can not wear trousers with zippers in the front. It’s buttons only. Why? Yes, you guess it: It’s also a “No-Fly” zone. Sorry I couldn’t help myself… On the flipside are countries that people often frequent, making them home to the most airports in the world! Counting down from

#6. Argentina we’ve come full-circle back to Lionel Messi’s home country! The Ministro Pistarini International Airport Argentina’s largest, and it stays busy. So far this year, the airport has seen a total of over 8.5 million passengers! It makes up one of the 1,130 airports in the nation.

#5. Russians the largest country in the world, it might come as no surprise that all that territory is sprinkled with loads of airports – 1,218 of them to be precise. The busiest is Moscow’s Sheremetyevo InternationalAirport, which saw more than 45 million passengers in 2018!

#4. Canada's neighbor to the north has a bit more with 1,467. In 2018, the Toronto Pearson InternationalAirport served almost 50 million passengers!

#3. Mexico the country’s 1,714 air hubs, Mexico City International Airport was the busiest 2018. They helped 47 million travelers get to and from their destination!

#2. Brazile only Portuguese-speaking country in South America whose territory is mostly made up of the Amazon Rainforest hosts 4,093 airports. The Guarulhos International Airport in SãoPaulo sees the most activity, serving just shy of 43 million people in 2018. Aaaand for the top-dog when it comes to the airport business…

#1. The united states wasn’t even a close match given that the US, as THE most visited country in the world, has 14,712 airports! Oh my! Specifically, the busiest one in the US is the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Hold onto your hats: just in 2018, it served over 107 million passengers! Wow, that’s a lot of lost luggage! Which of these places would you like to visit? Have you already been to any? Let me know down in the comments! If you learned something new today, then give the video a like and share it with a friend! Here are some other cool videos I think you'll enjoy. 15+ Reasons Why India Is Like Another Planet

15+ Reasons Why India Is Like Another Planet

Hey, do you have any plans for your next vacation? How about seeing India? Hold on now! Just because it might feel like it’s a world away (both figuratively and literally!), that doesn’t mean it isn’t a tourist-friendly country. And more importantly, a trip to India won't cost you nearly as much as you’d think!

1)
But first, you didn’t think I’d talk about India and not mention the majestic Taj Mahal, did you? This famous Indian landmark has been one of the Seven Wonders of the World for quite some time, and seeing this architectural marvel in-person makes it pretty clear why. The construction was commissioned in 1632, and it’s believed that it took up to 21 years to complete the entire project. I know you’ve heard of this monument, but did you know that it’s a mausoleum? Yeah, the emperor at that time, Shah Jahan, had this marble structure built to house the tomb of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Kinda sad she never got to see this ivory masterpiece built just for her.

2)
Since we’re on the topic, here’s a fun fact: there was an infamous Indian conman who repeatedly “sold” different landmarks in the country, including the Taj Mahal and the Parliament House of India! He was arrested as many as 9 times but somehow managed to escape from prison multiple times. During his final escape, he was already 84years old. Aside from the fact that he was breaking the law, ya gotta admit, that’s kind of impressive!

3)
Anyway, some tourists hope to avoid the crowds at major tourist attractions like the TajMahal and prefer to take the road less traveled. However, alone time might be hard to come by in India. With around 51 births every minute (that’s over 73,000 a day!), this country has one of the fastest-growing populations in the world. Roughly half of India’s population is under the age of 25, also making it one of the world’s youngest populations. India alone holds more people than the entireWestern Hemisphere, and with so many people comes a colorful tapestry of cultures, religions, and languages, which brings me to my next point

4)
There are about 780 languages spoken in India, but some sources put it in the thousands. Whatever the case, only 22 have been recognized as official languages. Good thing English is in the mix too! India has one of the largest numbers of English-speaking people in the world, 2nd only to the US. This means you can enjoy this super diverse country without needing a translation app on your phone each time you wanna stop for lunch or buy a souvenir.

5)
Oh, that’s right! Your smartphone is obviously your closest traveling companion because, let’s face it, taking pictures is probably the easiest way to document your adventures abroad. You’ll be happy to know that cell service and the mobile Internet is very cheap in India. So, there’s one reason why your trip wont cost you nearly as much as you’d think. You can share every experience and discovery with your friends and family back home without breaking your budget. That alone should put this fascinating country at the top of your bucket list of places to visit!

6)
Ok, now for another reason India won’t leave you with moths flying out of your wallet: the food here is so cheap! Check it out: if you go to a restaurant and order a whole meal with chicken or even fish, your bill could be as little as $1! As for a cup of tea, it’ll cost you about20 cents. I mean, can you imagine filling your belly for under 5 bucks? Sign me up! Given that you’ll be saving so much on dining, you can dedicate more of that limited budget to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, something that India offers in abundance Actually, one of these is the food itself. In case you haven’t heard of the Land of Spices, India produces around 70% of the world’s supply. That means each authentic local meal will be an adventure itself! Hopefully, your stomach will be strong enough to tackle the rich variety of flavors! And for those of you with sensitive tastebuds, here’s a pro tip: take small bites to test the intensity of the spice before biting off more than you can handle!

7)
I also have some good news for traveling vegetarians that may be hesitant about the availability of meals suited for your dietary needs. India is also well known for being a vegetarian-friendly country. This is partially thanks to religious beliefs, but it’s mostly just a personal choice there out of respect for living beings. A State of the Nation Survey in 2006 showed that up to 31% of the Indian population is vegetarian, and another 9% do eat eggs but no forms of meat. So enjoying local cuisine isn’t reserved only for meat-eaters. Like I said before, this is a diverse country with enough variety to suit anybody!

8)
Did you think I forgot about you, sports lovers? Well, if you love sports as much as experiencing new cultures, watching a live cricket match can be a way to enjoy both. Cricket is the most popular sport in the country, much like soccer in Europe or football in the US. So why not get your hands on a ticket to a local game, pack a picnic basket, and spend the day outdoors among locals to get a taste of true Indian sports culture!

9)
The Ganges River provides another outdoor activity for nature lovers while still keeping the focus on experiencing the culture. The Ganges is the longest river in India and serves as a hub of activity in this country. This activity includes dolphin-watching as the Ganges Dolphin is unique to this river. Unfortunately, their numbers are drastically decreasing due to increasing pollution. Let’s hope environmentalists can find a way to protect these creatures for future generations to enjoy when visiting India!

10)
Again, you can’t talk about India without mentioning one of the many massive ceremonies that take place there. One of the most popular is the Kumbh Mela gathering, which is so big that it’s visible from space! Kumbh Mela is the two-month mass pilgrimage of those of Hindu faith to bathe in the Ganges. The host city of Allahabad welcomed staggering120 million visitors in 2013 and a whopping 30 million on a single day! Even if you’re not into crowds, you should still try to buck up and witness this incredible event. I mean, at least you’ll be able to say you were present at the world’s largest gathering of people! Bragging rights!

11)
Kumbh Mela is one of many festivals celebrated in the Indian culture, but the brightest has to be the color festival Holi. It celebrates love, the start of spring and end of winter, and the triumph of good over evil in a very delightful way. People take to the streets to drench each other with water and colored powder. Everyone celebrates together in a spectacular display of good humor and, of course, lots of colors! Now, I’m not usually one for a crowd, but his just seems too good to miss!

12)
As a matter of fact, color plays a very important role in Indian culture. It’s apparent from the traditional clothes, festivals, local cuisine, and even their currency! Yes, with a handful of rupees, you’ll quickly see their bright colors and variations in sizes. Even if the notes’ designers didn’t doit on purpose, they seem to symbolically celebrate the diversity of this nation. Indian bills also have Braille markings so that blind people can read their values. How considerate!

13)
Another fun fact on the topic of Indian money:it’s illegal for foreigners to take rupees in or out of the country. Sorry for the bad news to any of you coin collectors that like to keep different types of money as a souvenir from your travels. So, yeah, not just a fun fact but one you should take note of to avoid any trouble with local authorities! There’s no limit on the amount of foreign currency you can bring with you on your visit, as long as you declare any amount over 5,000US dollars in cash. But, then again, who’s carrying that kinda cash on them anyway?

14)
Now, Queen fans might be aware of this tidbit, but let’s see if you are! Did you know that the iconic band’s frontman Freddy Mercury was of Indian descent? His name at birth was Farrokh Bulsara, and both of his parents were from Bombay! Mercury himself, of course, was born in Tanzania, but still! From beautiful music to beautiful people, India has the highest number of winners for the Miss World competition with a total of six! Only Venezuela has produced the same amount of title-holders since the beauty pageant’s start in 1951. The most recent Indian Miss World was ManushiChhillar in 2017. So in addition to the delicious food and fun festivals, you’ll also be in the presence of people whose beauty is recognized worldwide!

15)
If you get tired of the hustle and bustle, you could also take a day and kick back with some old-school board games. You familiar with Chutes and Ladders? Well, this popular classic dates back to ancient Indian times and was known as ‘Moksha Patam’. It made its way to England, where it was soldas Snakes and Ladders. The name changed to the one we know today when it was first introduced to the US. The idea of the game was to teach kids the difference between good virtues and bad vices, represented by the ladders and shoots respectively.

20 Most Extreme Comparisons That You Must See

20 Most Extreme Comparisons That You Must See

It’s a competitive world out there, eh? A global rat race for the title of the tallest, biggest, fastest – you get it. How about we make the most unusual comparisons and see where you can find record-holders of all kinds?

20 Most Extreme Comparisons That You Must See

1. The world's fastest roller-coaster is in the Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The thing takes just 5 seconds to reach its top speed of 150 mph. You complete the 1-mile track in just over a minute and a half! And then you barf. The slowest roller-coaster in the world is in Germany - and it's a walkable one! Yep, your speed depends on how fast you can climb the steps of the 69-ft-tall structure! There’s a loop and everything!

2. The biggest sports stadium in the world is in North Korea - it can seat 114,000 people, which is the entire population of Springfield, Illinois. To see the world's smallest stadium, just look at your typical foosball table! Ok, fine, if we’re going by capacity, there are plenty that tie with 40,000 max – Russia’s Fisht Olympic Stadium, Rentschler Field in the US, Japan’s Ōita Bank Dome, to name just a few.

3. Venezuela’s Jeison Orlando RodríguezHernández has the largest shoe size today. He wears an unimaginable U.S. size 26. (The average for men varies from 9 to 12.) The tiniest adult shoes are custom-made for Indian actress Jyoti Amge, the world’s smallest woman. She’s just over 2 ft tall, and her shoe size is about a 2…in the infants’ department!

4. The biggest private house in the world is a 27-story personal skyscraper that belongs to Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani. The Mumbai home is 550 ft tall, almost as tall as the Washington Monument. The world's tiniest house was built by nanorobotics researchers in France. The itsy-bitsy construction is so small that it wouldn't even fit a mite! And still, the house has 7 windows, a chimney, and a tiled roof! More than I can say about my apartment…

5. Porcelain Palace, the largest public restroom in the world, is in Chongqing, China. It's not a single bathroom, but a gigantic 4-story,32,000-sq-ft complex with 1,000 toilets! Hey if you’re there, mention my name and you'll get a good seat. The most compact loo in the world has to be Britain's futuristic-looking Vertebrae Vertical Bathroom. It consists of 7 units (or modules)that can be rotated with a push. There’s 1 commode, a sink, the toilet’s tank, 2showers (one a bit higher than the other), and 2 storage drawers.

6. The fastest train in the world is ShanghaiMaglev. It runs along a high-speed magnetic levitation line at a max speed of 268 mph! The world's slowest express train runs in Switzerland. During the trip, the GlacierExpress averages just 24 mph.

7. The most expensive commercially available pizza in the world costs $2,700 (or $250 for just 1 slice!) and is sold in an upscale Italian restaurant in New York City. Black squid ink dough sprinkled with one of the most expensive kinds of cheese in the world, caviar, and 24K gold leaves. Would you be willing to beat that much money??? And if we talk about the US, you can findthe cheapest plain pizza in... Alaska! There, you'll pay about $7.25 for a large one.

8. The biggest dog in the world (if we talk about its weight) was Cloe, a Mastiff that weighed 365 lb, as much as a full-grown reindeer!Cloe lived in Tibet back in the ‘80s. The smallest living dog is Milly, a Chihuahua from Dorado, Puerto Rico. When the tiny thing was born, she didn't even weigh 1 ounce and could fit in a teaspoon! Now, this itsy-bitsy pooch’s height is just under 4 inches.

9. The longest outdoor escalator and moving walkway system is in Hong Kong. The Central-Mid-Levels escalator is 2,600 ft long and goes just oneway at a time depending on rush hour. The world's longest individual escalators are the – Uuh, let’s just throw the names up on the screen. Thanks! – subway stations in St. Petersburg, Russia. To get down, you'll have to take a 453-ft-long escalator ride, which is as tall as the Great Pyramid of Giza! As for the shortest escalator in the world,it’s in the basement of More's Department Store in Kawasaki, Japan. It has only 5 stepsand is just over 2½ ft long.

10. The loudest city in the world is Mumbai, India. Its noise level is more than 100 decibels, which is almost as loud as a chainsaw! The world's quietest place is a room in a Microsoft research lab in Redmond, Washington state. It’s so eerily quiet that nobody can stay there for more than 45 minutes ata time. Supposedly, you can hear your own heartbeat!

11. If you want to see the tallest building in the world, you’ll need to book a trip to Dubai. The Burj Khalifa is a jaw-dropping2,720 ft tall, which makes it 2 times taller than the Empire State Building. The "world's littlest skyscraper" is the Newby-McMahon Building in Wichita Falls, Texas. It’s just40 ft tall (roughly the height of a telephone pole) and got the nickname because it looks like a thin column.

12. Next to the Burj Khalifa, there’s the world's tallest hotel, the JM Marriott Marquis Dubai. This impressive construction is 1,165ft high, which is even taller than the Eiffel Tower! And the world's smallest is -- oh golly, let’s just put up the name guys – I always stumble over umlauts. Anyway, it’s in Bavaria. The building is a mere 8 ft wide and has a floor space with square footage not much more than 3 parking spaces. No wonder the hotel can accommodate more than 2 guests at a time!

13. The tallest bridge in the world is the Millau Viaduct in Southern France. Its maximum point soars at 1,125 ft above the ground, which is -- really high for a bridge. The smallest drawbridge in the world is in Bermuda. There, Somerset Bridge connects Somerset Island with the mainland. The length of the bridge is a little over 2½ ft.

14. The world's most expensive private jet is a Boeing 747-8 VIP. It originally cost $358 million, but customization took the total price up to $558 million. As for the one with the lowest price tag,it’d be the small Cirrus Vision Jet that’ll set you back “just” $2 million.

15. The biggest school in the world is in Lucknow, India. It's the City Montessori School, where you’ll find almost 40,000 students and well over 2,000 teachers! The title for the smallest goes to an elementary school in the teeny town of Alpette, Italy. In 2014, it was attended by just one 8-year-old student.

16. The largest art museum in the world isthe Louvre. You’ll “Lourve” to see it! The Parisian landmark covers a total area of almost 783,000 sq ft – that’s over 13 football fields. Have you noticed how we compare two things that have absolutely nothing in common other than size? But wait there more! The world's smallest museum is in West Yorkshire, England. The Warley Museum used to be a phone booth, hence why this museum can only haveone visitor at a time! It also changes exhibitions every 3 months!

17. The largest plant in the world grows in the Sequoia National Park in California. It’s a tree nicknamed "General Sherman," and the giant is 271 ft tall, almost as tall as Lady Liberty. There’s another one. Ha. Together with its root system, it weighs around 1,800 tons. That’s over 15 blue whales! Oops – there we go again. Duckweed is the world's smallest flowering plant. The thing is smaller than a grain of sand and has a tiny root with 1 or 2 leaves. The plant flowers every year and even produces a microscopic fruit!

18. The Earth's slowest animal is the three-toed sloth. Its maximum speed is 15 ft per hour! That's why these animals don't usually wander further than 100 ft a day and are pretty much stuck in one place. The world's fastest land animal is the cheetah. Its speed can reach 75 mph (that’s 26,400times faster than the sloth), and the feline can go from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds!

19. Venezuelan-born stunt performer ErnestoGainza Medina used the smallest parachute in the world for his 2014 jump in Dubai. Hisparachute's canopy was just 35 sq ft (that’s about the same as 3 bath towels sewn together)! The world's most massive canopy FORMATION was created by 100 skydivers who linked up mid-air above Florida. Doing so, their combined canopies were as big as a Boeing-747. If just one skydiver had made a mistake, all the participants could’ve crashed into each other, which wouldn't have been good, let’s just put it that way…

20. The world's smallest reproduction of printed book is "Teeny Ted from Turnip Town." The thing is etched on a microchip the width of a human hair! It's impossible to read this book without a scanning electron microscope. The largest published book is "The Little Prince." This record-breaking edition is almost7 ft tall and over 10 ft wide when open! That’s over 200 times bigger than the book’s typical copy! And that’s all I got. Good thing too, the comparisons alone about wore me out. I mean c’mon, General Sherman and a blue whale? Hey if we could see General Sherman riding the Blue Whale, well, I’d watch that! Hey.

14 Sleeping Mistakes That You Make Without Knowing

14 Sleeping Mistakes That You Make Without Knowing

14 Sleeping Mistakes That You Make Without Knowing

Picture this: you're exhausted after a long working day, and the only thing you can dream about is throwing yourself on the bed and blacking out. Not gonna happen! Instead, you're tossing and turning, trying to find the most comfortable position. Your mind gets plagued with endless thoughts, and even though you're worn out, sleep keeps eluding you! How come? The reason might be very simple - your seemingly innocent bedtime habits!

14 Sleeping Mistakes That You Make Without Knowing

1. Drinking water but wait, then why do they keep saying, "drink more water, it’ll make you healthy"? That's true, your body needs to stay hydrated during the day - but stop "watering" it one hour before you hit the sack. Otherwise, you'll be bound to make one, or even a couple, of trips to the bathroom, which will rudely interrupt your sleep. On top of that, most people find it hard to fall back asleep after they get up in the middle of the night.

2. Bright Alarm ClockAvoid gimmicky alarm clocks that "shine bright like a diamond in the sky." To wake you up, an alarm clock needs to be loud, not bright. Cutting-edge illuminating alarm clocks look fancy and decorate your room, but their light is harmful to your sleep. Your brain needs darkness to reboot completely;that's why you should opt for regular, simple alarm clocks.

3. Eating Heavily Before SleepThere's hardly a person who doesn't know that eating a lot before going to bed can cause nightmares. But actually, it's not only about the size of the meals, but also the time when you have them. By eating heavy foods for dinner, you encourage your brain to be more active. That's why, at night, it can lead to vivid nightmares. Besides, a hearty dinner disrupts your digestive system, leads to weight gain, and causes problems with your stomach. On the other hand, it's also a bad idea to eat right before going to bed, even if your dinner is light. Your body will still struggle to digest whatever you've fed it. Try not to eat anything 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. And if the gnawing feeling of hunger doesn't let you fall asleep, choose to eat fruit.

4. ExercisingJust like drinking water, exercising is a healthy and effective way to keep your body fit! But... not before going to bed. Quite the opposite: any rigorous physical activity late at night will negatively affect your sleep. Try to exercise at least 4 hours before going to bed. And if you need to relieve stress after a workday, opt for a short stroll rather than running on a treadmill, or going for a long evening walk.

5. Playing with GadgetsCut down on your screen time before falling asleep. Not only do gadgets over-stimulate your brain, making it restless, but their screens also emit that infamous blue light. This light suppresses your body's sleep hormone, melatonin, and alters your internal clock. As a result, your brain doesn't believe thatit's time to go to bed - hello, insomnia! To avoid this problem, you can wear special glasses that block blue light, or choose a special night mode on your devices. But the best solution is to power down all hand-held screens an hour before going to bed.

6. NappingNapping is an entirely normal, and often healthy, routine. But if your naps are regular and last longer than half an hour, they can mess up your sleep at night. Statistically, people who like having naps during the day, often have sleep disorders like sleep apnea and insomnia. So, unless you need it really bad, avoid nappingin the afternoon. And if you do, don't make it longer than 10minutes - this is enough time for your body to recharge.

7. Uncomfortable MattressBy buying a good, high-quality mattress, you literally invest in your bright (and healthy)future. Right, such mattresses usually cost a fortune. But when, in an attempt to save money, you're on a sloppy mattress, you do yourself more harm than good. An uncomfortable mattress doesn't let yousleep tight, which makes you irritated and grumpy, and causes all kinds of back and neckpains.

8. Using Sleep AidsThousands of people deal with stress and insomnia with the help of over-the-counter sleep aids. However, there are several reasons why it'snot the best idea. First of all, your body will most likely develop a tolerance to sleep medications; and pretty soon, they won't have any effect on you. Secondly, the day after, you'll feel tiredand sluggish, which won't benefit your productivity. And finally, after a sleeping pill, the quality of your rest will be much worse than it would’ve been if you’d fallen to sleep naturally.

9. Reading BooksAh, I see, this one is a shocker, isn't it? I hear both regular readers and book addicts argue that reading is a healthy habit, and all spheres of your life benefit from it. I can't argue with that if you don't mean reading as a bedtime habit. It turns out that reading excites your mind as much as watching a movie or playing a mobile game does. If the book you're reading is interesting,it's next to impossible to put it aside. You're more likely to keep reading until you finish it at the expense of healthy rest. On the other hand, I guess everything depends on how engrossing the book is.

10. Not Having a Sleep routine when it comes to sleep, it's crucial to have a routine and, even more importantly, stick to it. Keep in mind that you're supposed to not only go to bed but also to wake up, at the same times every day. The sad truth is that when you have an erratic sleep schedule, it can confuse your internal clock and lead to sleep disorders. At first, it may be challenging to lull yourself to sleep right after you burrow under the covers. But as long as you stick to your sleep schedule,it’ll get easier and easier to blackout.

11. Wrong Sleeping PositionYou might be waking up with a sore back, red eyes, and a painful neck just because you haven't found the proper sleeping position yet! By the way, experts recommend not sleeping on your stomach, because it turns out to be too taxing on your neck and back, leading to poor sleep and the feeling of discomfort during the day. And the best sleeping positions are on your back with a small pillow supporting your knees, on your side with a pillow between your knees, and in the fetal position.

12. Thinking About WorkThe majority of people can't avoid thinking about work-related problems, to-do lists, and bills to pay before falling asleep. Unfortunately, these thoughts usually cause anxiety, which makes the quality of sleep way worse. By all means, avoid stress at bedtime by concentrating on pleasant thoughts and dealing with work-related concerns earlier in the day.

13. Getting ColdImagine waking up in the middle of the night because your feet feel like two blocks ofice rather than human appendages! When it happens to me, I find it extremely hard to warm my feet up and fall asleep again. So, if your feet tend to get cold at nighttime, remember to put on a pair of warm socks before going to bed. Alternatively, you can use heating pads. Or do what I do, stick your feet under yourdog. Yep he’s up there with me.

14. Drinking coffee and last but not least, do NOT drink coffee after 7 PM. I agree it may sound a bit too obvious, but then you tell yourself that one tiny cup of espresso won't hurt, and there it goes... Unfortunately, sleep and coffee never go hand in hand. This drink is a powerful stimulant, and will keep you energized no matter what. Even if you manage to fall asleep, your sleep won't be as deep and restful as usual. Some specialists go as far as to recommend not drinking coffee after lunch! Sleep is extremely important for your body. It helps to restore energy, boosts your immune system, fends off depression, and decreases the risk of stroke and heart disease. Lack of proper sleep leads to daytime sleepiness, inability to concentrate, irritation, stress, and even high blood pressure! And if your insomnia drags on, you can get physically or mentally ill! So, try to avoid doing the things mentioned in this video before going to bed, and you'll feel way more rested and energetic in the morning and during the next day! Do you have any tricks to get yourself ready for bed?

Why Most Erasers Are Pink In Colour?

Why Most Erasers Are Pink In Colour?

If you're like me, and who wouldn’t want to be (ha), then you probably also wake up at 3 AM sometimes with a flood of urgent questions in your mind! How do barcode readers work? How did bubble wrap appear? And, most importantly, is there a reason most erasers are pink? Well, here we go!

Why Most Erasers Are Pink In Colour?

1. Why Most Erasers Are Pink In Colour?

Ever paid attention to those metal or plastic tips on the ends of your shoelaces? They’re called aglets. Sure, they keep the strings from fraying, and they make lacing your shoes much less labor-intensive. But here’s the surprising bit: they appeared in ancient Rome, where people made them out of glass or stone.

2.

The reason why the computer mouse is named after that cute little rodent is easy to explain: the thing is quick and small, and not too long ago, it used to have a cord connecting it to the computer that looked like a tail. But when the first computer mice appeared, producers referred to them as turtles. Makes sense! They’re covered with a hard shell, and all the moving parts are underneath this “shield.”

3.

Obviously, webcams let you see your friends and relatives who can be halfway across the world. But few people know that the web camera was created with a bit less noble purpose. It was 1991, and Cambridge computer scientists were getting frustrated. You see, every time they went to the coffee machine for a cup of Joe, there wouldn’t be any coffee left in the pot! A journey wasted! One day, they’d finally had enough and simply invented the world's first webcam! They placed the camera next to the infamous coffee pot with a perfect view to check the level. Then they’d know right from their desks if the trip would be worth the effort!

4.

What would childhood be without hours spent sending a Slinky down a staircase? Ah, good times… The popular toy has been around for over 70years, but there’s more to the Slinky than stair-time fun (and lots of tangles): itsolder metal version used to serve as a makeshift antenna for engineers and soldiers. And in 1985, one Slinky even made it to space! Unfortunately, it refused to slink in zero gravity. Astronauts reported that it just "drooped."

5.

Paper money isn't the most reliable form ofcash because bills tend to wear out faster than you’d think. For example, a US 1-dollar bill usually lasts for only 18 months – after that, it must be withdrawn from circulation and replaced. A 5-dollar bill goes a bit longer – for2 years, a 10 - for 3 years, and a 20 – for 4 years. As for 50- and 100-dollar bills, they lastthe longest – 9 whole years! And get this: the US Mint prints 37 million bills a day, but 95% of them go to replace old ones that are dirty, torn, faded, and unusable. Hey, I’ll be happy to take that dirty, tornand faded cash! Call me maybe.

6.

T-shirts were invented at the beginning ofthe 20th century. In 1904, Cooper Underwear Company advertised them as a perfect product for bachelors who couldn’t sew or reattach buttons to their shirts. Back then, you were supposed to wear a T-shirt under your collared shirt as an undergarment. Oh, and all T-shirts at that time were white– no funny prints or bright colors.

7.

In 1957, engineers Alfred Fielding and MarcChavannes decided to seal two shower curtains together with tiny bubbles of air stuck in between. Why? It was supposed to be a cool new idea fora wallpaper! Unfortunately for them, nobody was interestedin bubbly wall décor. But in 1961, people realized that this bubble wrap could be great protection for fragile things! The company’s first client was IBM, who used the stuff to cover their computers during shipment. I don’t know, I’m kind of into the wallpaper idea now that I think about it – imagine how fun your house could be!

8.

Erasers – why are they pink? Ok, I know they now come in all colors and shapes, but I’m talking about that classic bubble-gum hue. History’s got all the answers! When a stand-alone eraser appeared in 1916,it was made mainly of rubber and pumice. Without the pumice, the thing didn't have enough friction to erase pencil marks. Pumice could be white or red, and the colorof an eraser depended on the hue of this volcanic rock. That year, the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company started to add pink pumice to their erasers, which became popular under the name "PinkPearl." Nowadays, producers don’t use pumice or natural rubber for their erasers anymore. But they decided to keep the color as an homage to history!

9.

Electric fans don't actually cool the air. If you put a thermometer anywhere close tothe working parts, you'll see the temperature rise due to the electric current. What it does do is cool your skin! The device speeds up the evaporation process, making sweat on your skin colder.

10. Rice is the oldest food on your plate. And I don't mean it's expired! Rice is the product people have been cultivating for the longest time: from 12,000 to 15,000 years. It first appeared in ancient China's PearlRiver Valley thousands of years ago. The only other food that’s almost as oldis corn. Native people in Mexico started growing between 7,000 to 12,000 years ago.

11.

The keyboard you use today was originally designed to slow you down! The position of the letters isn’t as randomas it might seem. It's called QWERTY design (see the top leftrow of letters), and it appeared in 1872. The main purpose of this design was to slow down the typists of that time. They were getting too fast for the machines they used. As a result, typewriters jammed, which wasted tons of time. And however counterintuitive it may sound, slowing the typists down actually made them more productive. Obviously, there's no practical need for the qwerty keyboard nowadays, but people are so used to it that it’s probably not worth coming up with a new design.

12.

You might have noticed that some cables have chunky cylinders on them. These cylinders are called ferrite chokes(or ferrite beads), and they have an important function. Without them, cables turn into antennas that can pick up and broadcast electrical interference. The cylinders, in turn, "choke" this interference.

13.

Now stick with me here. Velcro was invented after a walk in the forest! George de Mestral, the Swiss inventor of the popular quick fastener, once noticed how burs would stick to his dog's fur and his own pantlegs. This inspired him to come up with an idea of creating the same effect for fabric.

14.

Barbie saw the light of day in 1959. And in the 1960s, the legendary doll got a fictional biography published in a series of novels. If you read them, you'll find out that her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts of Willows, Wisconsin, and her parents are George and Margaret Roberts. But they’re all kind of artificial, know what I mean.

15.

Despite what I used to believe, barcode readers aren't reading the black parts of the code but the white ones! The reader emits rays of light that fall on those bars. When that happens, the white areas reflect this light, while the dark ones absorb it. And it’s the reflected light which helpsthe device "read" the code and give you the information about the product. Man, I used to think the “Bar Code” meant how many pretzels you were allowed to eat along with your beverage.

16.

In 1493, Christopher Columbus brought some pineapples to Europe, and people fell in love with the taste of the exotic fruit. Sadly, they needed tropical climates to grow to perfection. That's why the only way to get yourself apineapple was to import it from across the Atlantic. It took ages, and in the process, fruits could get rotten or bruised. No wonder a single pineapple could cost a ridiculous amount of money. It became a symbol of status, and people who couldn't afford to buy one, rented pineapples for a night to show them off at their parties! And now, I think I’ll go back to sleep. The morning’s coming soon.

9 Secrets of the Statue of Liberty Most People Don't Know

9 Secrets of the Statue of Liberty Most People Don't Know

9 Secrets of the Statue of Liberty Most People Don't Know

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most (if not THE most) famous monuments in the world. Anyone visiting New York City can see her, but not everyone knows that Lady Liberty has her own secrets. One of them is – she might not even be a lady at all! Counting down from

9.

The Statue of Liberty was once split into pieces It's really hard to picture it, but the Statueactually arrived from France on June 17, 1885, in over 300 copper pieces. The precious cargo was traveling in 214 crates on the French ship, Isère. The iconic arm holding the torch wasn't there, however. It was standing in Madison Square Park for6 years to help raise money to sponsor the pedestal. When the ship carrying the statue arrived,200,000 people came to welcome it to the US. The official dedication ceremony took placeon October 28, 1886, with President Grover Cleveland presiding over it.

8.

It was one of history's first crowd-funding campaigns. First, French sculptor Frédéric AugusteBartholdi raised funds in his country to build the statue. It wasn't actually sponsored by the local government. When it was finished, the sculptor offered as a gift to the US on one condition: they would build a pedestal for it. The federal government didn't like the idea,so the status of the statue was unclear for a few years. Then, American newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzerstepped in. He basically started one of the first massive crowd-funding campaigns in history, promising every contributor an honorary shout-out inhis newspapers. Even though 80% of the donations were smallones from middle-class citizens, Pulitzer managed to collect the necessary amount fromover 120,000 donors. By the way, the famous sonnet "The New Colossus",which can still be found on a bronze plaque inside the Statue, was also part of the fund-raisingcampaign.

7.

The Statue of Liberty wasn’t always green. The Statue of Liberty is made of copper, soit was originally about the same color as a penny. According to the New York Historical Society,it turned completely green because of oxidation by 1920. There was a time when it was half brown andhalf green. The new color survived the restoration, andthey say the coating, called patina, won't ever disappear.

6.

It used to serve as a lighthouse The statue was originaly supposed to serveas a lighthouse for ships sailing into New York Harbor. And, two years after it arrived in the US,it actually became one. For 16 years, the Statue's lamp served asa beacon. But it wasn't bright enough, and, runningout of ideas to fix it, Bartholdi offered to cover the entire statue in gold to makeit brighter. Congress said no to that idea since it would'vebeen crazy expensive.

5.

It's all about number seven It's easy to notice the Statue has seven spikes on its crown, symbolizing universal liberty across the seven oceans and continents. The less obvious reference to the number 7is in the number of windows in its head – there are 25 of them, which makes seven if you addup the digits. There are 16 leaves around the torch, andthe monument itself is 151 feet tall. The sum of both those digits is seven as well. Clearly, that number meant a lot for the Statue'screators.

4.

The construction supporting the Statue was designed by Gustave Eiffel The pedestal of the Statue of Liberty was built in old Fort Wood on Liberty Island. It currently hosts museums that show the history of the Statue with old photographs, videos, recorded oral stories, and the original torchLady Liberty was holding in 1886. Famous engineer Alexander Gustave Eiffel (sound familiar?) helped design the steel internal framework to keep the statue stable. It's strong enough to withstand around 600bolts of lightning a year. When the wind is high, the Statue can sway by around 3 inches, and it's torch – about 5 inches. 354 steps lead up to the crown of Lady Liberty, which is open to visitors; but the torch is off-limits. Speaking of visiting the statue, have you ever been there? (I have, and walked all those 300 some steps to inside her head and looked out through those windows. It was kinda claustrophobic, and very cool.) Or maybe there is some other iconic monument you have climbed? Share your experiences in the comment section below!

3.

It might have masonic ties. There's a popular theory claiming that the Statue of Liberty was originally supposed to be dressed as an Arab peasant woman and stand at the southern opening of Egypt’s Suez Canal. The ruler of Egypt couldn't afford it, so Bartholdi redesigned it, giving it a different dress and new name, and sent it as a gift to the American people to celebrate the anniversary of the American Revolution. So what does that have to do with the masons? Well, Bartholdi himself was a freemason. He represented the French Grand Orient TempleMasons, hence his interest in Egypt. He supposedly wanted to put the statue there to symbolize “the Orient showing the way”. The torch Lady Liberty is holding is an important symbol in the Masonic culture as the “Torch of Enlightenment” or the “Flaming Torch of Reason”. The masons also took part in the cornerstone-laying ceremony in 1884, and the grandmaster, William A. Brodie, presided over it in the company of grand lodge members.

2.

The face of the Statue of Liberty could be that of a man When you think of the Statue of Liberty, doyou see it as a she? Most people are positive it's a representation of the Roman goddess of freedom, Libertas. The widely accepted story is that Bartholdimodeled her face after his mother. Author and journalist, Elizabeth Mitchell, however, claims that the sculptor actually used his brother's face as a model! As she was studying the photographs of Bartholdi'sfamily, the writer noticed his mother had a different eyebrow shape, thinner nose andlips, and smaller mouth. Then, she pointed out the striking resemblancebetween the sculptor's brother in his adult years and the statue. Because of his mental health condition, Bartholdi'sbrother spent years at the hospital, and Frederic would spend hours watching him. That could've helped him recreate his facein every detail. Another theory was presented by French writer Nathalie Salmon, who claims Lady Liberty was modeled after her ancestor Sarah Salmon. According to her, Bartholdi found Sarah'sfeatures particularly beautiful. Even though she had immigrated to the UnitedStates, she and her husband visited the sculptor at his studio when they briefly went backto Paris in 1875. He could've used that opportunity to drawSarah, and later used those images as a model.

1.

There's more than one Statue of liberty and I'm not talking about its plastic souvenir versions, or the one on Las Vegas Boulevard. You can find a smaller Statue of Liberty, which was the original model for its big sister, in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. It's been there since 1906, after Bartholdigave it to the Luxembourg museum for the World’s Fair of 1900. Another version of the iconic monument was erected on an island in the Seine River to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French revolution in 1889. It has two dates on it - July 4, 1776, andJuly 14, 1789, symbolizing the friendship of two nations, and the importance of revolution. There's also a life-size copy of the torchon the Pont de l’alma in Paris. People from around the world sponsored its construction as a symbol of Franco-American friendship. It was set not far from the Eiffel Tower onthe 100th anniversary of the Statue's dedication. The Statue, of course, has also inspired numerous public and modern art projects, and one of its most famous replicas greets the visitors of a toy store in Times Square.

20 Easy Tricks to Protect Your Home When You're Out

20 Easy Tricks to Protect Your Home When You're Out

Cookies under the entrance mat, beads spread all over the floor, invisible paint smeared on door handles sounds like either my dog has been in your house, or a starter pack for when you're home alone during the holidays! But these and other unusual tips can protect your house – or at least let you know it was visited while you were away!

20 Easy Tricks to Protect Your Home When You're Out

1.

One of the simplest ways to figure out if your house got some uninvited visitors is to stretch a thin unnoticeable thread across the bottom of the front door threshold. If someone opens the door and steps inside, the thread will be torn and left lying on the floor. The only downside of this trick is that youhave to be extremely careful while leaving your own house; otherwise, you'll spoil yourown trap!

2.

Leave some crackers or thin cookies under the doormat inside your house before leaving. Anybody who enters your home in your absence will step on the mat and crush the flat snacks without noticing a thing.

3.

I bet you have an old smartphone you don'tuse anymore after upgrading. If so, download an app that records only soundson this phone and hide the device somewhere near the entrance. Before leaving home, switch on the recording. This method will only work if you won’tbe absent for long because, after a few hours of constant work, an old phone's battery willprobably run out.

4.

If you have suspicions that someone rummagesthrough your things while you're away, take a photo of everything you have on your tableor in your drawers before you leave. After you come back, compare the picture withwhat you see.

5.

When leaving your home, carefully place aglass filled with beads next to the door before closing it. This way, if someone gets inside while you're away, they're bound to tip the glass over (if the entrance door opens inward, of course). The beads will roll all over the floor, andthe intruder will surely try to pick them all up. Remember to count the beads in advance – that bumbling burglar is unlikely to have found them all!

6.

Instead of pricey security cameras, why notuse a video baby monitor? Hide the camera in the entrance hall, andyou'll be able to see everything happening near your door online! A major disadvantage of this method is a limited coverage area - usually no more than 1,000 ft. It means you probably won't be able to checkif everything's ok at home from your office. But if you have some suspicions, it's a goodway to confirm or disprove them!

7.

Leave a glass of water on a rug right behindyour entrance door (which, again, opens inward). When someone opens the door, it'll tip theglass over, the water will spill, and the rug will absorb it. If you have a thick wool rug, it's unlikelyto get dry any time soon, and you'll find out that someone was in the house during yourabsence. If you're going away for a couple of days, this method obviously won't work because, well, even the thickest rug will be dry bythe time you get back.

8.

Leave the front door a bit ajar, clean thedoor handles, and spray them with invisible UV glowing paint. Since the door has been left open, it won'tbe a problem for you to get out of your home without touching the painted handles. An unsuspecting invader, on the other hand,is sure to leave hand or fingerprints on the door handles. When you return home, you'll be able to seethese prints under UV light.

9.

To scare burglars away, put alarm signs onall your windows and doors. I hear you, alarm systems are indeed quiteexpensive: on top of their own price and the cost of installation, you'll also have topay a service contract fee every month. But I didn't say you'd need an alarm system- I was talking about the stickers! You know, those signs that read, "Protectedby So-And-So Alarms." If you manage to hold of such a sticker, putit somewhere where it won't look too obvious but will still be noticeable.

10.

Most break-ins occur in the afternoon whenpeople are at work or school. Burglars feel safe because their chances ofgetting caught or identified are low. Still, before getting inside, they watch housesfor some time to figure out if they're empty. One of the things they pay attention to iscars parked in driveways. In most cases, it means that someone's home. If you have an old vehicle you haven't gottenrid of yet, make it useful! Park it in the driveway to fend off thieves. Or if your family member isn't using theircar, don't hide it in the garage – leave it outside.

11.

One day you may get a distinct feeling thatyour home is being "cased" or watched by burglars. Maybe a stranger comes up to your front orback door and tries the handle. (By the way, never open it from the get-go. Keep it closed, but ask how you can help fromthe other side. They'll probably make up some excuse aboutmistaking your house for someone else's and then leave.) Anyway, if you're short of money or don'twant to deal with all the security camera technicalities, install fake ones! They're pretty simple to create on your own, like from old webcams!

12.

Or, if you suspect that a burglar is casingyour house, you can pretend someone's inside at all times. When you leave, wave and say your goodbyesto some non-existent person inside. Hey I’ll be happy to be your non-existentperson! Oh wait, I do exist. Nevermind! If a burglar is watching, they won't knowyou're just talking to your couch!

13.

If you're out of town in the winter, ask yourneighbors to leave some tire tracks in your driveway when it snows. An untouched layer of snow is a sure way toinform burglars that the homeowners haven't been there for some time.

14.

If you have some electronics boxes and packagingleft after buying expensive gadgets, never leave them on the curb or in your garbagecan. It'll lure burglars to your house – afterall, you have a lot of expensive stuff they can cash in on! Try to find time to drive these boxes to arecycling dumpster yourself. If you're mega-busy, cut them into tiny piecesand hide them in your trash or recycling bins.

15.

If you're going away on vacay, keep the processof loading the car as fast and as hidden as possible. The best way is to do it is inside the garagewith the door closed. If you have to do it out in the open, prepareeverything in advance, and be as efficient as you can. If someone is watching you, the abundanceof suitcases will give away your intentions to leave home for a long time.

16.

When you know you're going to be away fora while, go to your post office and temporarily cancel your subscriptions or ask the postoffice employees to hold your mail while you're away. A paper build-up in front of your door ora stuffed mailbox is an obvious sign that you ain’t home. You can also ask your neighbors to collectyour mail for you. If you trust them.

17.

If you're a lucky cat owner, remember that, however beloved your feline is, it can give you away to criminals! Burglars know that most cats sit by the windowwhen they're bored with nothing else to do. It means you aren't home to play with them. It's better to pass your cat off to a pet-sittingservice or leave it with a friend when you're planning to be out of town for several days.

18.

Keep in mind that if your fairly large dogcan get inside the house through a pet door, a burglar can probably slip through as well. Equip the pet door with a lock and make sureto lock it every time you're away.

19.

Consider putting large, reflective numberson your house and mailbox. It can help the police locate your place asfast as possible if your neighbors call them to report some disturbance in the area.
